PLACES

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

-Wendell Berry

As a Native woman, my connection to the land is ingrained in the very fibers. It’s my ancestral inheritance. It’s your ancestral inheritance. Photography, for me, is more than just a medium; it's a sacred tool for capturing moments of profound connection with the Earth. Through the lens of my camera, I seek to immortalize these moments, moments that serve as reminders of my reason for being alive. Each click of the shutter is an act of reverence, a testament to the healing and renewal that the Land offers me. It's a way to honor my roots, to celebrate the beauty of the natural world, and to preserve the stories whispered by the wind and written in the stones.
